Reopenings and events of spring time in Rome
MMDCCLXXVII Birthday of RomeApril 21, 2024, Rome
Rome's Christmas is the day when Rome celebrates its foundation on April 21 respecting the tradition according to which Romulus founded the city on 753 BC. on the Palatine hill.
The name Rome is assumed to derive from an Etruscan word Rumon connected to the name of the Tiber while another hypothesis makes it descend from another word Etruscan Ruma which means "breast" linked to the history of the twins and the she-wolf.
The first to celebrate Christmas in Rome was Emperor Claudius, in AD 47, about 800 years after the alleged foundation date of the city, followed by many others over the centuries.
And still today the celebrations continue on April 21 with many events including exhibitions, parades and playful events for an important appointment for all Romans and tourists fascinated by the legendary origins of this city.

Internazionali BNL d"Italia 2024From 6 to 19 May 2024, Foro Italico
The history of the Italian Internationals begins in 1930 at the Milan Tennis Club in via Arimondi, thanks to the work and passion of Count Alberto Bonacossa. In 1935 the tournament definitively took possession of the facility where it still takes place today, the Foro Italico in Rome, built starting in 1928 to a design by the architect Del Debbio.
Since then this event has always been played in Rome, except in 1961, when they were played at Sporting in Turin by virtue of the celebrations for the Centenary of the Unification of Italy and in the 1980s, when, on two occasions, the matches women were moved to Perugia and Taranto.

2024 Edition
The Foro Italico Park is preparing for the most beautiful and intense tennis festival in its history, with the first edition of the Roman tournament with the upgrade: three weeks of competitions, over 300 matches, double the number of champions in action, inside of a larger, more beautiful and functional site.
For the first time the tennis players will enter the areas usually intended for swimmers (changing rooms, players lounge, gym, restaurants and relaxation areas), thus allowing the Roman site to develop over a total area of 125,000 m2, with the suspended bridge that will allow the tennis players to move from the swimming pool area to the area dedicated to them inside the Centre.
