The "Nasoni": The small fontains of Rome

To drink by "Nasone" is one of many experiments to try at Rome.
The noses are distributing free drinking water fountains. The distinctive name was inspired by the typical curved iron tap whose shape recalled the idea of a big nose.
These fountains were installed for the first time in 1874, the initiative Rinazzo councilor, with three jets and were shaped like a dragon's head (we can still find some). But later, the "noses" of the new installation were made with a simple smooth tube, the rest, the model is still the same, characterized by a typical upper hole for drinking.

In the municipality of Rome the "noses" are about 2,500, of which 280 are inside the walls. To these we must add 114 fountains that distribute free water to the Romans, tourists and animals in Rome. Most Nasoni are very close to the most visited Es .. if you are in St. Peter's or just go to the Vatican by way of conciliation or at Piazza Risorgimento.
At the Coliseum if it meets a street in the square and another in the Four Crowned Saints. To be able to stop in Trastevere Arenula or in the Lungaretta .. Who is close to the square of the Ara Pacis will source the Golden Mount, in the alley behind Via Tomacelli and the Wolf. To find them just be careful .. if the road has little traffic is downpour recognize the otherwise crystal-clear water just sharpen the view and focus on the secluded corners, behind the historic houses or at the intersection of two alleys.
